Melissa Morgain

Melissa Margain is a junior at Castlemont High School.  She is currently an All City Council Representative to the Board of Education.  Her previous Leadership Experience is as follows:  Eight Grade Vice-President (King Estates Middle School), Ninth Grade School Representative (Castlemont High School), and Tenth Grade Class Secretary (Castlemont High School).  She has participated in College Bowl, Future Farmers of America (2000-present).  Participation in sports teams include: Varsity Softball (2001-present) and Varsity Swim Team (2001-present).  Melissa is very excited to be working with the Board of Education this year.  She hopes that this experience will open doors for her as well as her future plans.  She values her experience and helps out as much as she can by being involved in local issues and attending local and state-wide conferences.  Melissa knows the difference between being listened to and really being heard.  She will represent Oakland students to the best of her ability and ensure their voices are heard.

SB39 - District's  $100 Million Loan Bill Status Is Law

Governor Gray Davis has signed into law SB 39.

State Superintendent of Public Instruction Jack O'Connell has appointed Randolph Ward, Ed.D., as State Administrator of the District.  Dr. Ward formerly served in the same capacity in the Compton Unified School District.
