The Governing Board of the Oakland Unified School District welcomes you to its Internet Pages. The Governing Board, commonly called the Board of Education, is the elected (seven members) and the Mayor appointed (three members) policy-making body of the 53,375 K-12 student, 30,000 adult, 6,000 plus employee public education system within the City of Oakland, California. The Governing Board's primary responsibility, among others, is: To ensure that every student served by the District is well educated and demonstrates high academic achievement.

The Governing Board, within these pages, seeks to provide the public with information about the public school system goals, objectives, and activities, including its weekly legislative agenda, strategic long term goals and other activities affecting education within the City. The Governing Board hopes that you will visit these pages often, utilize the information provided, and let it hear from you on K-12 education and related issues including but not limited to how the contents of these pages may be improved to benefit you.

SB39 - District's  $100 Million Loan Bill Status Is Law

Governor Gray Davis has signed into law SB 39.

State Superintendent of Public Instruction Jack O'Connell has appointed Randolph Ward, Ed.D., as State Administrator of the District.  Dr. Ward formerly served in the same capacity in the Compton Unified School District.
